Pediatrics and Children's Hospitals

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine concerned with the development, care, and diseases of infants, children, and adolescents. The design of pediatric and children’s hospitals is continually changing through experience and advancements in technology. “Children and teenagers are not ‘little adults,’ which is how pediatric patients have often been viewed,” says Dr. Robert D. Hoover Jr., chief medical officer for DeVilbiss Healthcare. Designing for children for children is not easy. There are many factors that come into play. Children need to feel safe, relaxed, and at home in roder to make a visit to the hosipital more pleasant. This section of the webiste will give you some insite and tricks to ease the process of designing for kids.

This website was created as a resource of information to further the understanding of the ever-changing planning and design strategies of children’s hospitals. Any additional information that you can provide is encouraged as it will improve the quality of future pediatric facilities.
Thank you to all of you who have contributed to the development of this website. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
